POMS appealed to me when I first saw the trailer back when it came out, but I never got around to it. For those who don't know, Diane Keaton performs as Martha, who moves to an independent living community for the elderly. After being told by the owner of the facility that she must join one club, Martha decides to make her own club...a cheerleading club. Elderly people attempting cheerleading...you know it's going to be hilarious! The movie was funny with the jokes and with the way the cheerleading was performed, all while having that sadness in there with a storyline that I won't be spoiling in this post. I think about this movie after the fact, and yes, the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes were not superb, but the overall movie had a great storyline and positive messages about friendship and being kind to others through small acts of kindness. To make this movie even better, it is based on a true story about an elderly cheerleading club! I know, just when you thought you were off the hook from watching a biographical non-fiction comedy with Diane Keaton :). I had high expectations for this movie, and they were exceeded for what I would call a film a great movie. I rate POMS 4 out of 5 stars. It was an excellent movie, but it just needed that extra kick to boost the ratings a little more. In conclusion, I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves comedy and/or looking for something to watch!
