I had heard great reviews about Boyhood from all over, so I decided to watch it, and I have never been happier to have seen a film! Boyhood is the realistic story of a boy from ages 6 -18 who is trying to conquer the struggles of life. Many might call this film boring due to the 2 hour and 45 minute run time, but I call it magnificent! Seeing the boy grow up through the years is honestly really touching, knowing how much he moved, how little friends he had, and how his family was with him all along. I, for one, am not particularly fond of Patricia Arquette for some things she has said and done over the years, but her acting is absolutely remarkable. Arquette plays a mom who is struggling financially and emotionally now that she is divorced, and who is distraught after meeting other guys who, over time, we learn all have abusive tendencies. This made for one excellent storyline for Mason (her son) to grow and overcome breakups, alcoholic parents, mean friends, never staying in one place, and a dad who seemed like his only safe space. For those who don't know, Boyhood is rated R for language (the f-word is used multiple times by teens and adults). As well as the language, there is quite a bit of drinking, which in some cases leads to some mildly violent situations. Other than that, the movie is spectacular and is a great watch for older teens and adults (especially young teen boys with their fathers). For the first time on my site, I am proud to say that Boyhood is the first film to get 5 out of 5 stars for the spectacular acting, amazing storyline, and relatable and touching emotional value.
